PRESIDENCY ASSENT BILL FOR UPGRADE OF ADEYEMI COLLEGE TO UNIVERSITY

Adeyemi college of education, the foremost teacher training institute, which has long been due for upgrade into university, eventually the long-awaited news was broke on the Facebook page of Hon. Abiola Makinde, Honorable representing Ondo West-East federal constituency.

In a Press conference granted by the Honourable at his residence on 5th of January 2022 on the upgrade of Adeyemi College of Education to the University. He stated in his opening speech welcoming everyone present at the press conference and he stated that he broke the news on his social media handle (Facebook).

While addressing the pressmen, he said, “I promised the people of Ondo kingdom when I was campaigning for the post of MHR to sponsor the bill of turning Adeyemi College of Education into a Federal University of Education, and today this has become a reality as I promised”

    He gave thanks to the almighty God and those people who contributed to the success of this great achievement.

    In one of the questions thrown to him by Ayogen Tv correspondence who was at the conference, asked about the reason for being community conscious full of ups and doing, sponsoring bills, implementing projects, and numerous social services most especially the upgrade of Adeyemi which is a great achievement for him and Ondo city and he responded that education is paramount following the step of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and he said further that it baffles him how Adeyemi college of Education certificate carries Obafemi Awolowo University in which the school is capable enough to be a university on its own.

         He also stated further that he is not a professional politician but a businessman in politics and he focus more on his campaign mantra which he termed as WEALTH: W- WATER, E- EDUCATION, A- AGRICULTURE, L – LIGHT, T- TRAINING, and H- HEALTH.

He also said that there will be some changes in the school setting such as, the provost will no longer head the school but be headed by the pro-chancellor and the vice-chancellor and that Adeyemi Federal University might have an extension with more job opportunities and that both the staff and the students should expect orientation. Also, the school will no longer be under COASSU but under ASSU.

     Prince Adesulire from the Ministry of Education in Ondo State who was also present, in one of his answers to the question been asked by the pressmen concerning the reduction of school fees will be decided depending on the governing council, the school administration, and some important part concerning that aspect.

       Prince Wale Adesulire finally, advised the students to shun vandalism of properties most especially physical structures when protesting and the Federal government should look into improvement of the welfare of the staff and the students of the institution concerning strike issues.

The press conference ended with chanting and singing the praise of the honorable for the great news by different indigenous groups of both young and old who came to show appreciation to Hon. Abiola Makinde. The Student Union President of the institution, Comr. Odunayo Gbenga who led the student delegates to show their appreciation while speaking with the newsmen said, “in the history of Ondo state politics, there is no representative who has been so inclined towards community development, economic improvement, empowerment, and so on like Hon. Abiola Makinde. In his speech, he added that the over 20, 000 students of the institution appreciate him and he rounded up his speech with Aluta songs.
