Fake workers were discovered by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, who made the disclosure at an event organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Abuja on Tuesday.
Yemi-Esan said the Federal Government has suspended the salary of 3,000 civil servants who failed to present themselves for verification.
The head of civil service said the verification exercise is to eradicate fake and illegal recruitment in government agencies.
She said: “Sometimes in March of 2021, this office informed the ICPC that there were quite a number of fake letters of appointments circulating in the ministries.

“At that particular time, we discovered that in just one ministry alone, there were over a thousand individuals bearing fake letters of appointments. And they were already enrolled on the payroll.
“The Office of the Head of Service received another report, this time from the Federal Civil Service Commission itself, forwarding names of over 500 persons in various MDAs that possess fake letters of appointments.”
Meanwhile, former Governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West, Rochas Okorocha has slammed the General Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare.
Speaking on Tuesday when the National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dayo Israel, paid him a visit, Okorocha said Bakare was wrong for saying Igbos cannot rule Nigeria because they are under a curse.
He stated that people from the Southeast are an asset to the country.
Recall that Bakare in a viral video had claimed that an Igbo man cannot become president of the country.
